Who needs Second Life when you can build your own stuff right here on Earth?

This is the question posed by Brian Burnham author and reviewer for MacMerc.com where he writes a weekly feature on free software for the Mac, Freeloader Friday.

With Google Earth and SketchUp (free from Google) anyone can add your model to the world - turning it into a 3D overlay in Google Earch.

As a sometime frustrated resident of Second Life, it's difficult for me to disagree.

Thanks for pointing this out! It seems that using SketchUp with Google Earth offers the chance for some actual skill building while having a little fun at the same time!

At the moment, SketchUp is a novelty but if you get really good at creating stuff with it there may be a potential of a real job somewhere down the road.
